Operas Watched in Zurich

Casting here was immaculate. Orlinski was made for Ottone, this dandy with slicked back hair and an angelic voice works incredibly well. Desandre as poppea channels this desire all the male characters feel for her in a marvelous way; to call it eroticism would be a touch too base, but a smirk did not fail to fall on my lips at times.

Beyond compare and the most philosophical of the operas I have watched. Unfortunately this particular screening was poor; Giovanni is portrayed as this BDSM rockstar with far too many phallic elements on stage. Not for reasons of deviancy do I complain here, but because Giovanni is more than that. He is, in a sense, a man who refused to repent for this "sin" of lust, for which the devil drags him to hell. To him this lust is no sin at all, but only him living his life free of the confines of others. He is the only free man, and more of a hero than we have seen in centuries.

Short and modern slop. Shock value over actual feeling, doesn't know what it wants to be.
