Don Giovanni - Mozart
Beyond compare and the most philosophical of the operas I have watched. Unfortunately this
particular screening was poor; Giovanni is portrayed as this BDSM rockstar with far too many
phallic elements on stage. Not for reasons of deviancy do I complain here, but because Giovanni
is more than that. He is, in a sense, a man who refused to repent for this "sin" of lust, for
which the devil drags him to hell. To him this lust is no sin at all, but only him living his
life free of the confines of others. He is the only free man, and more of a hero than we have
seen in centuries.
